THINGS BABIES NEED IN THEIR FIRST TWO YEARS

Many parents are bewildered by the responsibilities implied in the arrival of a new baby. They feel that they have before them a highly scientific task with which, they in their ignorance, will be unable to cope. This attitude is erroneous and should therefore be discarded. There are facts about child care that should be known, but if parents use common sense and are really fond of their child they will not make serious mistakes.
Based on scientific studies and research I have managed to compile a list of most of the important needs of babies in their first two years.
- Babies need mothering-being held and caressed especially at feeding time.
-Babies need several hours of sucking a day.
-Babies need to be carried often to develop a sense of balance and a feeling of security.
-Babies need to be given prompt attention when he criesto develop a sense of safety and trust.
-Singing, rocking patting or holding your baby when he's awake to help him sleep.
-A room of his own is important for baby's quiet and comfort and your own privacy.
- Babies need frequent, open display of affection-since he hearns to love by being loved.
- Let him feed himself when he shows interest- even though he makes a mess.
-Babies need room and opportunity for free movement and exploration.
-His first toys should be the ones that satisfy his need to handle, bang, suck, throw etc.
-Babies need companionship- play with parents is important.
-With a little help a child toilet trains himself when he is ready.
-Babies need practice in talking and listening to develop his ability to communicate.
-Babies need parents to realise they are not adults.
-Babies need to grow at their own pace and be appreciated-not pushed.
-Babies need a relaxed, responsive mother who plans rest and recreation for herself.
-A cooperative, harmonious home atmosphere is important -tensions distress a baby.
-Babies need as much freedom as is possible, not hedged in eith Don'ts.
-By asserting himself, he gains the sense of being an individual.
-He also needs to feel that he is a member of a family group.
-Babies need to be able and encouraged to display love for others.
-The young child needs to climb, run, pull, be physically active.
-He needs to play freely and be allowed to get dirty.
